You’ve heard that the major companies all use learning management systems.  But is there such a thing as a small business LMS?

1905Until recently, the answer was a bit unclear. In the past, learning management systems were used primarily by large businesses, mainly because the cost and complexity of these systems required deep pockets and a crew of IT workers. But this no longer holds true. With smaller price tags and user-friendly, automated interfaces, small business learning management systems are quickly becoming accessible to businesses of all sizes.

That being said, not every LMS is applicable to every small business. Depending on the number of employees you have, the type of training you need to provide, and the flexibility of your budget, some systems may be better geared towards your needs.

Here are some things to consider while shopping for a learning management system for your small business.

Price

While prices have come down quite a bit since the conception of the LMS, there is still some variability. Most providers offer a tiered plan system, with staggered prices starting at around $300/month for small companies. (Avizr starts at $219)

Launch

You shouldn’t need an IT department to get up and running. With the ability to easily upload videos, PowerPoints, and other content, setting up your courses should be simple. And with the option for customizable pre-fab courses, things can get even easier.

Make sure the interface is user-friendly and intuitive, and that options for
interactive content are readily available. If the provider you’re interested in offers a free trial, take it! It’s a good opportunity to make sure their customer service is reliable and their system doesn’t have any hidden glitches.

Automation

One of the best features of an LMS is automation. At Avizr, we offer automatic email options for things like reminding trainees to register for a new course or to complete one that is nearing its deadline. We can also send trainers daily reports of who has completed courses, and who still needs to finish them. And for courses that need to be taken multiple times (such as certain compliance courses), we can automatically re-invite users to take the course again every 6, 12, or 18 months. Whatever options you choose, it’s just one more thing you don’t need to worry about.

Every company is unique, and has different requirements. With this in mind, there are a wide variety of providers available today, at least one of which can certainly meet your needs.
